Hardcore Windows 95, Day Five
Connecting to the internet in Windows 95 is quick and easy, at least when you compare it to previous Windows versions. After installing a Xircom RealPort CardBus PCMCIA Ethernet card into a laptop, I test the compatibility of certain websites against three old versions of Internet Explorer. These websites include:
- The default home page set by Internet Explorer in Windows 95, which redirects to the present-day MSN home page.
- Google, which has scripts that don't render properly in IE1, thereby shoving the search bar way down the page.
- YouTube, which failed to load in all instances of Internet Explorer for an unknown reason.
- 95 Is Alive, a website more appropriate for Internet Explorer 5 as it was originally coded and published on a Windows 95 machine.
Web browsing on Windows 95 reliably is only going to get even more difficult from now.
