After a lot of frustration I finally maidened my Hare. This is flight #3. This is my first giant scale gasser that I purchased used from a club member, and she has a lot of history.
The ZDZ 60 RV had been modified to accept CM-6 spark plugs which is awesome! The motor has a lot of miles and I have to adjust the idle on final approach, but otherwise is a monster. This flight is with a VESS 23B prop. It's a little sluggish but still strong. Soon I will prop down and try 22x8 and 22x10 Xoar's. I think the extra RPMs with a 22inch prop will give much better pull out speeds from stalls/hovers, and a better top end, too. Total blast to fly! As of 3-8-15 I'm 8 flights in on 91 octane ethanol free with redline oil, almost have the first gallon through it. The manual calls for 50:1 synthetic but I added a little extra due to the age of the motor, so probably running closer to 45:1. The second and subsequent mixtures will be the same but 93 octane ethanol free, 45:1 (ish).
Even with the age of this motor, there is absolutely ZERO oil on the covering after flying. Redline is GOOD STUFF!!!
