Michael Jordan is a legend in basketball, but has a blemish in his career. People know that Michael Jordan didn't make the varsity team in high school, but why? Was he not good enough?

Today I wanted to talk about Michael Jordan and why he didn’t make the high school team.
Michael Jordan has had an illustrious NBA career, winning 6 championships, 5 MVPs, and a bunch of other accolades, but his one blemish and what is one of his biggest failures is not making the high school varsity basketball team.
In his sophomore season, Jordan did not make the Emsley A. Laney High School varsity basketball team because he was small and not good enough. Yes Michael Jordan was not good enough. Older players would call Jordan a "Peanut" and "Shagnut" because his play wasn’t impressive and he was small and comparatively weaker. Keep in mind that Jordan was 5’ 10” at the time and his high school team already had 8 guards, one of them being his brother, Larry Jordan, who was around the same height as Mike, but just out of his league. Jordan couldn’t even dunk yet and had actually built quite a name in baseball as a star outfielder and pitcher.
The last spot on the roster was given to Leroy Smith, a bigger 6’ 7” player, who Jordan felt wasn’t as good as him. MJ was sent down to the JV roster with a chip on his shoulder. He worked endlessly because as he would say "It was embarrassing not making that team,". This was Jordan before Jordan, and this embarrassment turned out to be the way Jordan developed an insane work ethic. In JV, he would put on a show, putting multiple 40 point games. He would also have a massive growth spurt, growing 4-5 inches in one year. In his junior year, he was finally called up to the varsity team where he would average 25 points and then average a triple double his senior year.
It’s crazy to think that Michael Jordan was not good enough at basketball, but we all start from somewhere and build up. He used it as motivation as he would say that “Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop, I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it,” “That usually got me going again.” This was the beginning of Michael Jordan’s basketball career. Because he didn’t make the high school team, Mike started becoming Air Jordan and the GOAT.
Comment down below on what would have happened to Michael Jordan if he had not got cut from the team. Would he be the same?
