While birdwatching at Horicon Marsh, Wisconsin I came across this wild Whooping Crane in a corn field with a flock of Sandhill Cranes. This individual has been banded and tagged by biologists. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to set up the tripod before taking the video.
Whooping cranes are one of the rarest birds in North America. In the 1940s, only 21 existed. Saved from the brink of extinction, around 3000 exist today. Learn more at www.savingcranes.org.
