White-Tailed buck "Abel" breeding a doe at the edge of the West Meadow, western sector of La Bota Ranch near Laredo, Texas - January 17, 2017 @ 5:05 p.m. about 8 yards from where I was standing! At the beginning of the video "Abel" is seen licking the hind quarters of the doe. She then walks a few yards away, followed by "Abel," who again resumes licking her hind quarters and tail as she lowers her haunches in submission. "Abel" attempts to mount her but is initially unsuccessful. She walks a few yards more and he quickly mounts her and with a single thrust the mission is accomplished. The doe then assumes the customary post-breeding posture, and in her ecstasy has her rear end somewhat lowered toward the ground with tail erect. "Abel" walks a few yards to the right in the video, where moments later, agitated by my close proximity, he exhibits a grunt-snort-wheeze [directed at me]. Then along with an ear drop, "Abel" starts in my direction. For obvious safety reasons I abandoned the recording and took refuge behind a large tree trunk. Please excuse the couple of expletives but it is extremely dangerous to get close to a breeding buck and his doe! Thanks for watching. Please visit my "White-Tailed Deer Photography" page on Facebook.
