A feud brewing between Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will likely change the tone of the campaign going into Tuesday’s Democratic presidential debate and comes less than three weeks before the Iowa caucuses launch the Democratic contest. NBC New York’s Melissa Russo reports.
Warren says Sanders told her during a private meeting two years ago that he didn’t think a woman could win the White House. For his part, Sanders has denied telling Warren that a woman couldn't win. The dispute marks an extraordinary turning point in a Democratic primary that, with few exceptions, has been characterized by genial differences over domestic issues such as health care.
Amy Klobuchar, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Tom Steyer will be the other four candidates that will appear at the debate.
The debate, which is being held on the Des Moines campus of Drake University and will be televised on CNN, marks the first forum with an all-white lineup. Businessman Andrew Yang, an Asian American candidate who appeared in the December debate, failed to hit the polling threshold for Tuesday's event. And New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker ended his campaign on Monday after he didn't make the debate stage, leaving just one black candidate — former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick — in the race.
