Hey Passionate Peeps!
Guess what day it is?
That's right... It's Q&A Tuesday!!
Today's "Q" comes from Nausheen:
Q: Hi Dean, I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos and your blog. It's inspiring to see someone who has actually experienced and overcome the same problems that I have. I am grateful to have found your work and I appreciate all of your advice.
Lately, I have been suffering terribly with a career satisfaction issue that I find somewhat embarrassing because I feel like it makes me feel ungrateful for my career and current position.
I've been working for the same company for a little over 6 years, it was the first job I took when I graduated from college. It's an excellent company and I earn a very respectable salary.
Over the last 6 years, I've been promoted 3 times, and I'm actually doing better than expected with my career at this stage of my life... but I don't love my job, I just like it.
I've secured a really good position, I have the respect of my peers and superiors, and although I feel like I should be grateful... for some reason i come home feeling unfulfilled and unhappy.
Although I enjoy my job and i'm thankful for it - I don't love it, nor am i passionate about it. Is this wrong of me? When I started my job, I felt what I thought was passion, I was very excited to go to work, and I worked extra hours and over-delivered on a regular basis, but that's no longer the case. I would notice that this feeling of "looking forward to work" would come back from time to time, but over the years, it's decreased little by little and now I feel like I'm a robot, just going to my office, doing my work, and coming back home.
Do you have any advice or thoughts on how to alleviate this issue at all? I've read several books on career advice, however I've come to halt and feel as though I am lost. My apologies for the long email, I hope it receives a reply and I look forward to reading your book as well. Sincerely, Nausheen.
