In the past, structural engineering designs were remodeled within detailing software by technicians, a process that was open to interpretation and error and was very time consuming. New extensions within Revit Structure 2012 that link to AutoCAD Structural Detailing (ASD) allow designs to be imported directly into a fabrication model. This interoperability saves time and cost and assures design intent is upheld. Josh Gionfriddo will explore this new workflow by exporting a structural model to ASD and show the ease at which shop drawing can be generated quickly and accurately within ASD. As the cost of steel is equal amongst all fabricators, innovative cost saving methods must be adopted for these steel companies to remain competitive. This new workflow offers that opportunity.
