Speaking on the Senate floor on Feb. 5, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, announced he would break from his party and vote later that day to convict President Donald Trump of the articles of impeachment. “With my vote, I will tell my children and their children that I did my duty to the best of my ability, believing that my country expected it of me,” Romney said, adding that what the president did was “grievously wrong.” After the Senate voted last week to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal has seemed all but assured. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
