PBS NewsHour co-founder and longtime anchor Jim Lehrer was inducted into the Mizzou Hall of Fame on Oct. 16, 2019. Lehrer, a graduate of the University of Missouri, spoke about his journey to the university and how his education helped shape his decades-long journalism career. Lehrer offered advice to students attending the ceremony. “Anybody who practices journalism has got to come to grips with the fact that you are not going to get it right every time. But you’ve got to understand when you make a mistake and you’ve got to acknowledge it. That’s an attitude I also learned at Missouri and I never ever, ever lost it. It was one of the cardinal rules of our little program on PBS,” Lehrer said. Lehrer died Jan. 23, 2020 at the age of 85.
