Chicago is a tough town and the MCs that call the city home tend to bring a fierceness to the mic. Vic Mensa’s one of those rappers – a guy who spits with the kind of vehemence you don’t forget. From his 2012 kick-off mixtape ‘Traphouse Rock’ to last year’s ‘There’s Alot Going On,’ he made a mark as someone willing to investigate street life and its repercussions. Tracks like “16 Shots” and “Danger” are powered by a seething reaction to the brutalities that inevitably crop up. Mensa’s participation in Vevo’s 2016 ‘Why I Vote’ series proved he put his money where his mouth was, urging listeners to get active in the politics that define their daily actions. To celebrate the arrival of his new album ‘The Autobiography,’ Mensa hit our NYC office for a ‘Live At Vevo’ session featuring three fresh tracks. Watch the expertise at work - and check out some of his stylistic change-ups - when he rolls through “Wings,” “Didn’t I (Say I Didn’t)” and “We Could Be Free.”
