The robot took us a couple of hours to build, and it pays to follow the directions closely. As kids build, they will begin to understand the basic mechanics behind it. It features six legs, two IR distance sensors, and interlocking gears. Once built, kids can experiment with different programming by changing the control switches on the robot's "brain." There area total of 64 options. Once it's programmed, you can run the VEX robot in manual mode by using the sliding thumb switches on the controller or put it in autonomous mode to see the effect of your programming choices.
