Produce 48 is one of the hottest shows in the K-pop scene. As the third installment of the famed Produce 101 series, we go back to an all-female idol competition. But this time, Produce 48 features J-pop idols.
J-pop idols coming from the AKB family, such as AKB 48, HKT 48, and SKE 48, are competing alongside the K-pop trainees. It's an exciting show that illustrates the culture and entertainment differences between Korea and Japan.
At first glance, just from the first two episodes, the K-pop idols look a lot more polished in stage presence, singing, and dancing compared to their J-pop counterparts. K-pop's choreography, in particular, looks to be light years ahead of Japan's.
But I feel that J-pop has some advantages over their K-pop competitors as well (I could only imagine if a music industry took the best of both J-pop and K-pop strengths and merged them.) These advantages aren't seen to the normal K-pop or Western music fan, but are unique to Japanese music.
Let's see what are these J-pop advantages and why they have a good chance doing well in Produce 48.
