United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived Saturday 16 February 2020 for a three-day visit to Pakistan. With the country’s authorities, he will mark 40 years of hosting Afghan refugees. The Secretary-General praised Pakistan for its efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. Pakistan has recently banned the use of plastic bags. In a meeting with the Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the SG urged stakeholders to find a peaceful solution to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. For his first-ever visit as UN Chief, Guterres Is expected to participate in an “International Conference on 40 Years of Hosting Afghan Refugees in Pakistan: A New Partnership for Solidarity”. The Secretary-General will meet with parliamentarians, youth, media, UN peacekeepers, refugees, children, addressing sustainable development, climate change, Youth, UN75 and UN peacekeeping.
