The minister of safety and security has been ordered to pay R80 000 to two young men who were assaulted in a tavern fight while two Uitenhage policemen watched. The assault, and the police officers' failure to act, were captured on video by a bystander using a cellphone. The assault was so brutal that one of the police officers looked away at times.
