Tips On Dealing With The Ministry Of Labor In Korea When You Get Cheated By Your Boss

Many English teachers wo work at hagwons get royally screwed by corrupt Korean bosses who fire them without pay, fire them just because, or withhold payments and other scams. I got cheated and had to go through the Labor Board process to get some compensation. It will be stressful, it will break your heart, and you will not get absolute justice. But you can get a little bit of money such as 1 month severance pay depending on your circumstances. If you are rich then you can hire a Korean lawyer who can actually get you justice, but that is highly unlikely being a foreigner is a strange new land. You will find the true colors of Koreans who you thought were your friends and would have your bac when you are in trouble. Many will become selfish jerks about your situation and leave you out to dry and even get upset at you if you as for help. But there will be some who love you and will do what they can to help you. Try to make Korean friends who speak English outside of work who would also want to help you. Join a club, gym, church, activity etc. I believe every English teacher in Korea if they are cheated are obligated to report their evil boss to the labor board simply out of principal. Do not fear them, do not fear the lying recruiters either who tell you not to report people. Korea can be a very backwards place and lacks some logic in a lot of areas. The labor people and department of justice people will want to help you and be on your side (if it is legitimate) but they can only do so much as Korean law does not really protect foreigners as much as it does the corrupt hagwon bosses. But they more times they get reported then more corrupt history is documented and the more they will get in trouble later for doing it to other English teachers. Here is my story.
