Alexander Arutiunian http://www.alexanderarutiunian.com/ Trumpet Concerto in A-flat major (1950) 2. Meno mosso Performed by: Timofei Dokshizer - Trumpet http://www.dokshizer.com/emain.html Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater, Moscow http://www.bolshoi.ru/ru/ Gennady Rozhdestvensky - Conductor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gennady_Rozhdestvensky More info for the interested: Arutiunian wrote this concerto for the great Armenian trumpet player Aikaz Kosmosovich Mesiyan. Mesiyan was born 1917 in Turkey. However, he fled to USSR because of the Armenian genocide at that time. He has studied at Yerevan Conservatory, later at the Moscow Conservatory. After his graduation he becomes the principle trumpet player of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra from 1938 to 1947. The concerto was written 1950 and premiered by Mesiyan in Moscow. Unfortunately, I am unaware if there is a recording of it. Khachaturian says for him: " He is highly qualified and talented musician, with exceptionally beautiful sound and virtuous technique." My father, who graduated his trumpet studies at the Leningrad Conservatory had an original score with Arutiunian's autograph and written dedication to Mesiyan. However, this piece of art was destroyed in a fire.
