The Lok Sabha (Lower house of indian parliament) has passed the Muslim Women (Protection of rights of marriage) Bill, 2017. This bill is commonly known as the Bill on triple talaq. Once passed by Rajyasabha bill will be forwarded to the President of India. Once it becomes the law instant talaq will be considered null and void. In this bill triple talaq is a punishable offence with three years of punishment and fine. During the discussion in the parliament union minister MJ Akbar made spirited defence of triple talaq bill.
