On June 25, 2015, the Houston SPCA rescued more than 200 horses from Calico Dairy in Conroe, Texas. The horses, which would become known as the “Conroe 200,” survived unthinkable conditions. Many exhibited severe health problems, including emaciation, abscesses, open wounds, and deformed feet. During the past year, the Houston SPCA has housed and rehabilitated the Conroe 200 in preparation for adoption. More than 150 have been placed throughout the country, while 33 remain in the care of the Houston SPCA.
Cinco, an eight-year-old Quarter Horse, exhibited one of the most severe cases of neglect from the group. He was severely emaciated and suffered from a bacterial infection caused by overexposure to moisture and inappropriate shelter. Today, Cinco is available for adoption at the Houston SPCA.
