The Summit Country Day School Upper School

In order to prepare each student for a lifetime of success, The Summit's Upper School focuses on developing intellect, faith, character and leadership. Our size gives every student the opportunity to excel in a variety of activities which include state championship athletic teams, award-winning academic programs and nationally recognized fine arts competitions. A strong focus on character formation begins with building relationships through peer advisement groups of 8-10 students. Faculty advisors, who serve as mentors and advocates for students, help foster personal growth, teach leadership and build social skills. Our rigorous curriculum includes many offerings for students. Special emphasis is placed on research and writing across all subject areas. Seminar-style courses, university-level science equipment and an infusion of technology promote a collegiate environment. More than 92 percent of our students take Advanced Placement courses and many of our students are engaged in independent studies in advanced topics such as art history, microbiology and even cosmic ray detection. Because our students represent 35 countries, we incorporate global awareness. We have welcomed students from Korea and China into a four-year high school experience. Our World Language Program includes French, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin. Students can opt to take customized immersion experiences abroad led by our faculty. We empower students to discover God, self and others through formal leadership courses. Our distinctive programs encourage students to discover their passion through inquiry-based learning inside the classroom and experiential learning beyond the classroom. Public speaking, music and theater help them find their voice. Every year, our students are heavily recruited by highly selective colleges across the country. Our college counselors partner with faculty to give students individual attention through a four-year college counseling program.
