Directed by Patricia Martin, 1984. Produced by Gordon Martin and Associates. 2K transfer by Frame Discreet. Montreal's Patricia and Gordon Martin worked as assistant director and producer, respectively, on animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger's silhouette films "Aucassin and Nicolette" and "The Rose and the Ring." After Reiniger's death, Patricia made this Hans Christian Andersen adaptation, her only finished project as director. While adopting Lotte's classical silhouette animation sensibility, there is a more modern outlook underneath.
