The Pink Elephant
In the savannah, where the baobabs slant,
There once lived a pleasant pink elephant.
"But aren't they all grey?"--So people think;
This elephant wasn't: this one was pink.
But life isn't constant: times always change.
One clever hunter stuck him in a cage.
And in the zoo park, on an overcast day
His skin turned to normal elephant grey.
For all other creatures, he's the butt of all jokes:
"Look at that fella! Greyer than smoke!"
But still, he forgives them: he doesn't get mad.
Except for some reason, he grew rather sad.
But elephant, listen, don't sadden: just think:
I'm still around, and I know that you're pink.
Maybe your dreams took on a grey hue,
And maybe their color rubbed off on you.
Elephant, listen: don't be dismayed:
Life often gives us days that are grey.
The sun will soon rise for we're right on Dawn's brink:
Soon she'll arrive and color you pink.
