The Malian women hold trade along the Niger River. From Mopti to the legendary city of Timbuktu, this chapter accompanies a law student, Fanta Diallo, who aims to achieve sufficient revenues to complete his studies in France. Through her and other women who are on her way (pottery artisans, the Peul ethnic shepherdess, street vendors...) the situation of women in Malian society is analyzed.
