In this video, Dr. Beck introduces a recently published article in which he and co-author Emily Haigh describe an expansion of cognitive theory: (Beck & Haigh, 2014.) Dr. Beck posits that while his theory - originally developed in the 1960s - remains rooted in the understanding of how people's beliefs influence their perceptions, mood, and behavior, it draws from and has been enriched by contributions from a wide variety of areas and disciplines. Dr. Beck's new theoretical model, the Generic Cognitive Model, provides a template for conceptualizing specific disorders and developing specific case formulations for each disorder.
