More detail:
During the first week of October, GDF’s Global Environments Network and The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN Med) hosted the MAVA-funded M6 partnership on Mediterranean Cultural Landscapes for the first Mediterranean Community Exchange (MCE) dedicated to Biocultural Diversity Monitoring. The event, which took place in the Moroccan High Atlas was a great success and excellent occasion for partners to dialogue and examine the impact of cultural practices on biological diversity at the M6 pilot sites. The MCE included exchanges of experiences, collective discussions and reflections on how to integrate biological and cultural diversity in monitoring, and learning about the tools and approaches used by project partners. All pilot sites shared their monitoring approaches and important lessons from the field during a series of presentations on the first day. The group also explored innovative approaches in biodiversity monitoring and evaluated the use of indexes and integrated measures to assess biodiversity at different scales. A day-long session was dedicated to the evaluation of the current status of M6 projects and planning for the next phase of the partnership.
