The Curse of Flight 191: Killer Flight Number, Or Killer Coincidence?

One ominous number, flight 191, unexplainably has a higher than normal amount of airplane disasters. This is the story of the curse of flight number 191. There have been four commercial flights with the flight number 191 that have crashed. [Four flights is abnormal, and the most of another other flight crashes carrying the same number.] The first incident came in June 1972, when a plane traveling to Mercedita Airport in Ponce crashed into the runway. Five people aboard including two crewmembers died. The next accident occurred in 1979. Flight 191 with nonstop service to Los Angeles from Chicago crashed after its left engine fell off during takeoff. Witnesses claim the aircraft hit no foreign objects while on the runway, and no other aircraft components were found with the engine. All 258 passengers and 13 crew on board were killed, along with two people on the ground tragically lost their lives. The third disaster occurred in 1985. Delta Air Lines flight 191 was landing in Dallas when it unexpectedly, hit an intense microburst, a sudden, powerful air current. Tragically, the plane crashed just a mile short of the runway, killing 137 people. Another victim to the flight 191 curse was a Delta flight from Lexington, Kentucky to Atlanta, in August of 2006. The plane became momentarily airborne before it inevitably slammed into the ground 1000 feet from the end of the runway, killing 49 people. As it turns out, flight 191 took off from the wrong runway. Instead of taking off from a larger runway used by commercial traffic, flight 191 took off from a much shorter runway used for general aviation aircrafts. The curse of 191 appears to have no rational explanation. As of 2014, most airlines retired the flight number from use. And although many lives were lost, the numerous crashes have lead to innovations in the industry, increasing the safety of flying. This is the story behind the curse of flight 191. --- Subscribe to Graveyard Shift | http://bit.ly/GraveyardShift_Subscribe Graveyard Shift on Facebook | http://bit.ly/GraveyardShift_Facebook
