There's nothing like it on the planet. Botswana's Okavango Delta is the world's largest inland delta. A wetland in a desert. From space it's a massive blush of green surrounded by brown. Ornithologist and zoologist Steve Boyes says it's one of the last true wilderness regions on earth. Obsessed with Cape Parrots, Steve Boyes is a regular TED speaker and a 2014 NatGeo Emerging Explorer. For the last few years, every September he and his brother and a support crew have been poling a section of the Okavango river on mokoros, traditional canoes, as part of a scientific transect of the delta. He's a major part of the effort that had the Delta declared a World Heritage site in June 2014. I produced this insert for Carte Blanche in South Africa a couple years back. Nothing has changed, except for increased awareness about this environmental wetland in the middle of a wildly exciting arid dustbowl...
