Emraan Hashmi is the unlikeliest of film stars. Till about 3 years back, Emraan was the leading man of a spate of box office hits like Murder & Jannat. No frill films produced by his uncles Mukesh & Mahesh Bhatt under the banner Vishesh films. The films had the formula down pat - good music, pacy plots and a forever ready to pucker up and kiss Emraan. It was a box office franchise which almost always hit home and put Hashmi in a comfortable rut. But since 2010 and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Emraan has gone into reinvention mode. Last year, Dibaker Bannejee's Shanghai got him critical acclaim & a leading role in Oscar winning director Danis Tanovic's next film. This year, also watch out for Emraan in Rajkumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar, an edgy comedy about a conman. Emraan Hashmi is on the A list this week talking about his brand of stardom.
