This is an educational video about testicular torsion. Testicular torsion involves twisting of the cord leading to the testicle and is a true medical emergency. Delay in seeking medical attention can result in loss of a testicle. Testicular torsion occurs most commonly in boys ages 10-18 and is the leading cause of testicular loss in this age group. This video shows the signs and symptoms of torsion and emphasizes the need to tell someone if you are having sudden, severe scrotal pain - even if it may be embarrassing! This video was made to help teach kids in junior high and high school about testicular torsion. It can be shown in health class or at the Pediatrician's office. It can also be watched at home. This video was created by Northwell Health (Previously North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System) in conjunction with Public Access TV (PATV) of Long Island. It was funded by the Department of Pediatrics and The Medical Staff Society at Long Island Jewish Hospital. It is featured on the American Academy of Pediatrics website.
