In what could be described as another bold step to check the spread of tuberculosis,HIV and AIDS as well as blindness in Nigeria,the Bayelsa State Governor,Chief Timipreye Silva who spoke through the Commissioner of Health gave reasons for setting up the AIDS/TUBERCULOSIS AND PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS ADVOCACY COMMITTEES Soundbite:Commissioner of Health Speaking(ENGLISH): "Anywhere you see tuberculosis or most times you see HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis has become a major complication of HIV/AIDS and for you to address the issue of HIV and AIDS and bring out good health and to ensure that person that has HIV and AIDS are healthy,we have to begin to put up adequate measures in addressing tuberculosis". Dr.Eruani asked the members of the committees drawn from various groups to see their assignment as ac all to duty emphasizing that nothing should be taken for granted in the fight against these deadly diseases. Meanwhile,the permanent secretary who spoke on behalf of the members of the committee promised that his team will not dissapoint the people. Soundbite: Permanent Secretary Speaking(ENGLISH): "With the level of committment we have seen in this present administration,i have no doubt that government will respond favoursbly to whatever the committees will come up with. The members of the various committees are willing to offer selfless service to move the health of the STate forward,we shall work as a team to mobilise the sources from both within and outside the State". The advocacy committees are expected to use the available tools and information,education and communication to sensitize the people on these killer diseases
