Taiwan Markets Plummet

Taiwan's markets suffered today. Euro zone worries and signs of another slowdown in the United States sent Asian markets reeling. Combined with the effects of the capital gains tax, the Taiex fell 211 points today, or 2.98 percent. It closed at 6,894 on turnover of NT$77.2 billion.Also the Taiwan dollar lost value against the greenback. It broke the NT$30 barrier, closing at 30.05 after a loss of over one-tenth of an NT. It's nearly a five-month low for the currency.
