Why can't Easter be a fixed date like Christmas? There is nothing on stopping the government from making for example that Easter is always the first weekend in April. It would be necessary to agree this with other countries with whom we do business. But the churches would also wish to have a say. Unlike Christmas, the date of which is a convenient fiction, Easter relates to an unknown date except in relation to the Jewish passover, which is itself a moveable feast. Easter therefore is a moveable feast because it is the Jewish Passover. According to people, the death, burial and resucrrection of Jesus happened after the passover, so the followers wanted Easter to always be celebrated subsequent to the Passover. Plus the Jewish Holiday calender is based on the Solar and Lunar cycles, each feast day is moveable with dates shifting year to year. Unlike us our calender is based on the Gregorian Calender. What is passover Passover was a day where the Israelites where given an instruction that they must slaughter the male first born of the lambs and then eat the meat all of it and then take the blood and smear in on the house, this is when God wanted to see if people keep his laws and those that didn't kept the law he will send his angel of destruction, and if the angel see the blood in the doors then the Angel will Passover the houses that kept the law of God.
