Forces of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have reported regaining control over the strategic town on Maarat al-Numan as they advance in the southeastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate, as footage from Wednesday shows.
"Now, Maarat al-Numan, the town is fully under the control of the Syrian Arab Army men. The SAA army is advancing quickly towards the town of Khan al-Sabil and is progressing towards Maar-Dabsi as well as the strategic town of Saraqib," - a Syrian Arab Army officer said.
Footage filmed on Sunday shows SAA soldiers gathered near the entrance of what appears to be Maarat al-Numan national hospital.
According to an official statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry, the Syrian government is currently making consistent efforts to establish a peaceful life in the territories liberated from illegal armed groups. Local authorities in Maarat al-Numan have already organized work to ensure the delivery of food, heating equipment, and other necessities to civilians.
The offensive has been ongoing despite a new ceasefire agreement between Russia and Turkey backing the opposing sides went into effect on January 12.
