An on-going sexual scandal are marring the Swedish Academy, the body responsible for the Nobel prize in literature, causing a one-year halt of the coveted prize. Maryse Conde is a Guadeloupe-born, French-writing author best known for her historical novel Segu. She was awarded the prize over two other shortlisted authors, Vietnamese-Canadian Kim Thuy and American Neil Gaiman.
