Stride piano is a great style to work on if you want to improve your hand independence on the piano. It's also great fun to play, and really useful if you like old-school jazz and blues: it basically turns the piano into its own rhythm section. Want to know more about piano chords and improvisation? Check out my book: http://www.billspianopages.com/how-to-really Support me on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/billhilton Stride basically involves alternating single notes low down the piano keyboard with chords higher up, closer to (or around) middle C. The stress on the off-beat naturally supports the swinging rhythms of jazz and blues, and the style also allows you to do a lot of interesting stuff with chord substitution and extension. The challenge of stride is to develop your left hand to the point where it can make big jumps precisely and while keeping in time at the same time that your right hand is improvising melody lines, licks or chords further up the piano keyboard. That's why it's such a great style for developing piano hand independence.
