Bottled water is really a waste of money. It is convenient but the extra costs add up over time. Another thing that you should be concerned about with bottled water is the plastic. BPA and other chemicals may leech into the water from the plastic container. Storing fluids in glass, steel containers, or BPA-free containers are safer options. You also, help the environment when you filter tap water. Purchasing and consumer less bottled water would result in less plastic waste in landfills. Many consumers are fooled by "creative" marketing. They may be under the impression that bottled water is coming from some far away, exotic spring or glacier. In actuality, the way the product is packaged is very misleading. More often than not, the product is nothing more than filtered or distilled tap water. Depending on where you live, filtering your tap water may be just as good (or better quality) than bottled water. Filtered water is usually “healthier” and less expensive than bottled water. But, keep in mind that there are also dangerous contaminants and chemicals found in municipal tap water: Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs), Heavy Metals (mercury, lead, etc.), Chlorine, Fluoride, excreted drugs and drug metabolites, microorganisms, etc. Whole-House and Solid Block Carbon Filters- probably the best (but most expensive in terms of upfront costs) type of water filter that you can buy. Granulated Activated Charcoal filters are inexpensive (upfront) and convenient option for filtering tap water. One of the drawbacks to these types of filtration systems is that the cartridges need to be replaced more often than other filters. This makes them more expensive to use over time. They also don’t filter the water as efficiently and effectively as other more expensive filters. A Brita Faucet mount filter costs about $35 at Walmart. They are easy to use and there is an indicator light on that tells you when the filter should be replaced. Per each faucet mount filter, you get about 95-100 gallons of filtered water. I filter my water and put it in a BPA free, plastic Rubbermaid bottle and take it with me. Sometimes, I use the Brita bottles with the filter inside when I don't have time to filter the tap water beforehand. It doesn't taste as good as the filtered water, though.
