Stomach bloating can cause pain and discomfort to the person experiencing itThe event can be caused by a problem with digestion or an inability to digest something, such as lactose intoleranceYou could reduce stomach bloating by adding ginger to your diet Stomach bloating can cause pain, as well as swelling, to the stomach. However, you could fight the bloat by eating certain foods. Hearth website, wellandgood.com, recommends adding ginger to your diet to battle the bloat. “Ginger is basically the supplement equivalent of the Headspace app,” it said online. “It helps you put your intestines into relaxation mode, allowing food to pass more quickly and speeding up digestion.” Tanya Zuckerbrot, a dietitian in New York, added “Ginger is also considered an appetite suppressant”. “Eating or drinking ginger can prevent you from eating too quickly, which normally causes bloating,” she told the website. “Eating quickly can also cause serious abdominal discomfort.” You could consume ginger as either a spice with food, supplement or in a tea. Everyday Health, a medicinal website, also says that ginger can help reduce stomach bloating. It quotes a 2015 review published by the European Review for Medicinal and Pharmacological studies, which found ginger helps speed digestion. “This is important”, said the website, “because if your stomach empties faster, gases can move more quickly into your small intestine to relieve discomfort and bloating”. “In addition to over-the-counter gas relief remedies, some items commonly found in the kitchen may double as natural gas relievers.” Ginger can also help reduce muscle pain and soreness. It also has anti-inflammatory effects which can help reduce symptoms for arthritis sufferers. You could also reduce stomach bloating by eating more slowly. Dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner told WebMD you should take about 30 minutes for each meal. “Eating quickly and not chewing your food well can cause air swallowing that leads to bloating.” “So slow down and enjoy your food!” Eating yoghurt can also help you fight the bloat.
