The Spiral Tunnels were built starting in 1907 and took only 20 months to finish. They are an engineering feat. They were built in order to lessen the steep grade for the CP railway through the Kicking Horse Pass between Lake Louise and Field BC. September 5th 2009, marked the 100th anniversary of their completion.
