For Somalis, poetry is a public art, the expression of their culture valued above all else.
All oral traditions but especially poetry, are a paramount importance to Somalis. Successful public speaking determines a Somali to explain community issues, to debate politics, to settle disputes and to mold opinions.
Poetry teaches Somalis who they are, where they come from and where they're going. It makes them laugh it helps them remember . More than a refined art, poetry is essential for their cultural survival.
This poem is about the poet Amin Sheikh Mohamed giving marital advice to his nephew Guelleh.
