With The Last Jedi currently in theatres, Star Wars fans are now wondering about the next entry from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Solo: A Star Wars Story. While the production problems alone have given fans something to talk about, not a single plot element has been revealed, other than it will feature everyone’s favorite scruffy looking nerf-herder Han Solo and his walking carpet companion, Chewbacca. But if actor Paul Bettany is to be believed, it looks as though Solo will break new ground by being a sort of “gangster film” set inside the Star Wars Universe.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Netflix is looking to continue taking on the big studios in fantasy franchises by setting up a sequel to the yet to be streamed Bright. Will Smith has already signed on for the sequel, but there is no word yet on who else will join him and who might direct. David Ayer helms the first installment that stars Smith alongside Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz and Kenneth Choi. It is set to debut this Friday, December 22nd.
OPENING THIS WEEK
Disney announced yesterday that Academy Award winner Judi Dench and Josh Gad have joined the cast of the live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Joining the cast as well is Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw, who will make his onscreen debut in the title role.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the new Halloween movie written by Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, with Green directing for Blumhouse will be a true homage to the original that started it all. The site reports that the film has cast the original “Shape” actor Nick Castle as Michael Myers but since Castle is now 70 years old, stunt performer James Jude Courtney has also been cast to help complete the film.
