Shou Sugi Ban deck with reclaimed wood on Camper Van (DIY charred wood TUTO)

This video is an addition to the van build video. It shows the process of preserving wood with fire in the Japanese way called shou sugi ban (charred wood). This was an alternative to using chemicals on the wood to make it weather resistant. I did the shou sugi ban using a butane torch and pallet wood (long pallets).
Having a wooden deck on top of the van helps keep the temperature down in summer as it allows an airflow between the metal roof and the wooden boards. It also soften the noise on rainy days so it doesn't feel like being stuck in tin can!
I realy like the design look of charred wood; it gives an awesome look to the roof of the van.
