Hadrath Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqaas {radiy'Allaahu ta'aalaa anhu} was an early convert to Islaam in 610-11 and one of the important companions of Holy Prophet {sall'Allaahu ta'aalaa alaihi wa'sallam}. He was the seventeenth person to embrace Islaam at the age of seventeen. He is mainly known for his commandership in the conquest of Persia in 636, governorship over it, and diplomatic sojourns to China in 616 and 651. He carried out Hadath Omar's {radiy'Allaahu ta'aalaa anhu} recommendation and appointed Hadrath Sa'd {radiy'Allaahu ta'aalaa anhu} as governor of Kufa. He has been traditionally credited by Chinese Muslims with introducing Islaam to China in 650, during the reign of Emperor Goazong of Tang, although modern secular scholars don't find any historical evidence for him actually travelling to China. He outlived all ten blessed companions, and died a wealthy man at the age of eighty, in the year 664.
