This iconic anthem, an immediate hit and protest perennial, was originally recorded by John Lennon & Yoko Ono on their honeymoon in 1969, in a hotel room filled with media, music personalities, and a rhythm section made up of members of the Hare Krishna movement. It was released soon after on The Beatles' Apple label. A generation later, Sean's vocal arrangement is an homage to the Beach Boys' rich harmony structures that had inspired the Beatles greatly, though the two groups never collaborated on record. Through Sean, a circle of mutual inspiration is complete, with Beach Boy Al Jardine's participation on this recording.
