She has worked with youth in rehabilitation centers due to physical injuries and hospitals for mental illness. For most part of the past 10 years, she has been working with youth in the nonprofit sector. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York in an area known for “prostitution”, Janmarie did not know she was being prepared for what would become her calling: healing, preventing, and educating on the underground world of commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of children. Commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of children is also known by the acronym CSEC. Yes, it happens in the USA…it is not something that happens overseas or to Americans when traveling to another country. Janmarie has a BA in psychology and an MS in marriage and Family Therapy; she is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Janmarie is passionate and dedicated on bringing awareness to CSEC, how it affects our youth and making sure a “taboo” conversation is still being held; if the conversation is not had, things will continue. Janmarie has conducted radio interviews, and has been featured in magazines and newspaper articles. She has also appeared on television speaking on CSEC, the warning signs, its impact on our community and how to combat it. She participates in panel discussions and consults. Statistically, the youth that are trafficked everyday are predominately black and brown. They are viewed as “runaways”, “drug addicts”, and “bad kids”…this could not be further from the truth. Parents do not know what to do so they seek assistance from courts, therapists, family and friends; some parents think their child want to be “grown” and lets them do as they feel is “their will”. This is what exploiters hope and plan for…assumptions and giving up hope. There is a method to exploitation and exploiters have mastered it. Exploiters monetarily reap the benefits of the physical, mental and emotional destruction of a person while going unscathed. The method of identifying, preventing, educating and healing CSEC must be mastered to save our youth. FURTHER STUDY Join Sasha Madeline’s Wealth, Melanated™ WBSC!
