(23 Oct 2018) Saudi dissident Prince Khaled bin Farhan al-Saud on Tuesday said he believed the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul earlier this month was the Saudi crown prince's idea, and had the Saudi king's approval.
"Based on this approval the operation was executed," Khaled bin Farhan said, speaking from his home in Dusseldorf, Germany where he is living in exile.
Referring to a news conference by Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan earlier on Tuesday, in which he had promised to reveal the truth about Khashoggi's disappearance, the prince said that "by explaining the operation, the assassination, he (Erdogan) left no doubt that it was a high level political decision, from Mohammed Bin Salman and the king."
Saudi Arabia has said Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi royal family, was killed in a fistfight that broke out inside the consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd, an explanation many countries have questioned.
Turkish authorities have not found the journalist's body.
