When the Mrs. bought a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy S9+, I was "kind" enough to step in and offer a test of the 960 frames per second Super Slow-Mo Mode for her. So we brought out a couple of RCs and went on a fun family trip to a local ball field. Here is the footage!
Full video from this day and comparisons of the HBX 12889 and 12891 in Full HD coming up! Short and raw video files with the Samsung Galaxy S9 Camera in 4K coming up too!
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ has a cool new feature that allows you to capture super slow-motion footage in 960 fps. Not in Full HD though but in 1280x720 HD. Compared to previous slow-motion footage commonly found on this channel I use 120 fps in Full HD (1080) and 240 fps in HD (720). So quite a difference!
However, this new footage of the Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn't give you a full video file in 960 fps. It records 0.2 seconds in 960 fps when it detects movement in a (movable/re-sizable) frame on your display. This equals approx. 6 seconds of super slow motion and it saves the whole clip in a 1280x720 30 fps video file.
I think some of the slo-mo shots could have been improved, if I had taken more time setting up the frame on the display in just the right spot. But this day, it was all new to me, and I was in a bit of a rush to join my family on the playground next to the ball field. Hope to get another chance to test it out again soon. Maybe even at a location with some small jumps.
