신종코로나 확진자 2명 추가 발생...국내 총 6명 More cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in South Korea. One person contracted the disease from the third confirmed patient in the country. Over in China, the death toll and the number of cases continue to soar. We connect to our Kim Hyesung standing by on the line. Hyesung, please fill us in. Right, Daniel, so two new cases were confirmed here in Korea today. That brings the total number of infected to six. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the fifth confirmed case is a 32-year-old Korean man who returned from Wuhan last Friday. He was one of the "patients under investigation" - people who are subject to quarantine and testing due to the presence of various symptoms like fever and coughing. The sixth confirmed case is a 56-year-old man who had contact with Korea's third patient, making it the country's first human-to-human transmission. The two are known to have had a meal together in a restaurant. The third confirmed patient, who had returned to Korea from Wuhan without showing any symptoms,... had contact with up to 95 people before being quarantined. Currently, the two newly confirmed patients are being quarantined and health officials are conducting an epidemiological investigation. As for the death toll in China, the number has topped 170. The total number of confirmed cases is now over 77-hundred. That's an increase of over 15-hundred from the previous day. The infection rate is in fact much faster than the SARS outbreak in 2003, which had around 53-hundred confirmed cases. Around 100 cases have been recorded outside of mainland China, including France, Japan, Nepal, Singapore, Canada and the U.S. India saw its first confirmed case today. A faster infection rate than SARS is troubling. What's being done in China to contain the disease? Well, the central province of Hubei, which is home to Wuhan, is in a state of lockdown. The province of 60 million people, a population bigger than all of South Korea, has effectively been sealed off. China has put numerous transport restrictions in place as well. The city of Wuhan has extended its Lunar New Year holiday to two weeks. It was originally supposed to end on January 30th but will now end on February 13th. Local companies in the region will delay their reopening, and many employees have been told to work from home. Global companies including Google and IKEA have closed their operations in China in a bid to stop the global spread of the disease. That's all I have for now, back to you. #coronavirus #Health #Wuhan Arirang News Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/arirangtvnews
