Russian mob's money man caught in Ukraine, pals with legendary "vor v zakone" bosses

BREAKING NEWS — A man named as a significant figure in the Russian underworld, a member of the vor v zakone — the “thieves in law” who are the elite in the Eastern European criminal hierarchy — was arrested April 10, 2019, in Ukraine, near the capital, Kyiv. Botir Rakhimov, also known as Batyr Bukharsky, was living in Spain until 2010, where he was responsible for laundering the money for the vors, police allege. He came to Ukraine, through neighboring Moldova, in 2010, seeking citizenship, Ukraine authorities said. He bought identity documents and was living quietly until his arrest, according to Vyacheslav Abroskin, deputy head of the Ukraine’s national police. According to Abroskin, he was very close to men of legendary status within the vor underworld. He was “crowned” — the word for being initiated or accepted into the vor — in Moscow by Aslan Usoyan (also known as Ded Hasan), and went on to be a long-time confidant of Vyacheslav Ivankov (also known as Yaponchik) who was a powerful vor boss. In 2009, after the slaying of Yaponchik, Rakhimov allegedly participated in an important, high-level meeting with the main Russian mafia bosses, held on a large yacht. In order to avoid conflict, territories and roles of each vor were agreed to. Rakhimov’s job was to relocate to Barcelona to help launder their money.
