Russian/Nat Today (Sunday) is the 42nd anniversary of the death of former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Hard-line communists gathered in Moscow's Red Square and then laid flowers on Stalin's grave at the Kremlin. The event was also marked in Stalin's home town of Gori, in Georgia, where the former leader's memory lives on. Despite having been responsible for the deaths of more than 20 (m) million of his countrymen, Stalin is currently enjoying something of a revival. After Stalin's death in 1953 his name was removed from history books and was rarely mentioned in public. They say time heals everything and it appears many Russians have forgotten the terror they lived in throughout his reign - but they DO remember the law and order he brought the country. Law and order "Stalin style" no longer abounds as evidenced by this week's assassination of one of Russia's most popular television personalities who was gunned down outside his house. The Georgian people have always been proud of their former leader and to this day his memory is revered by them. Nowhere more so than in Stalin's home town of Gori. Ushangi Davitashvili began collecting Stalin memorabilia shortly after the leader's death and now has a Stalin museum in his back yard. It's visited by thousands of people every year. SOUNDBITE: In Russian (Translation: "I wanted to do justice to Stalin. Everyone was criticising him. So I started to collect documents and papers in order to rehabilitate Stalin and to show people who Stalin really was". SUPER CAPTION: Ushangi Davitashvili And the name of Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili lives on 42 years after Stalin died. His great-grandson was born in the same month and was given the same name. SOUNDBITE: (Translation: "When the little boy was born, I thought the Dzhugashvili inheritance will continue. The family line had not been cut by fate. God was on my side and on Stalin's side. We want to keep the line going". SUPER CAPTION: Evegeny Dzhugashvili - Josef Stalin's Grandson For the moment it seems, baby Josef Stalin, is just happy to enjoy the attention and simply be left to carry on the family name.
