Kelton Orbison (April 23, 1936 December 6, 1988) was an American singer-songwriter and musician, well known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads. Bob Dylan marked Orbison as a specific influence, stating that there was nothing like him on radio in the early 1960s: With Roy, you didn't know if you were listening to mariachi or opera. He kept you on your toes. With him, it was all about fat and blood. He sounded like he was singing from an Olympian mountaintop. He was now singing his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff. He sang like a professional criminal... His voice could jar a corpse, always leave you muttering to yourself something like, 'Man, I don't believe it'. Lyrics: A candy-colored clown they call the sandman Tiptoes to my room every night Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper Go to sleep, everything is alright I close my eyes, then I drift away Into the magic night, I softly say A silent prayer, like dreamers do Then I fall asleep in dream, my dreams of you In dreams I walk with you In dreams I talk to you In dream you're mine, all of the time We're together in dreams, in dreams But just before the dawn I awake and find you gone I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry I remember that you said goodbye It's too bad it only seems It only happens in my dreams Only in dreams In beautiful dreams.
